Abstract:
The vegetable production in Suzhou city has experienced three periods of adjustment and transformation, rapid development and quality improvement.The production management has changed from directive to market regulation and then to the organic combination of market and government.The study investigated the vegetable industry in Suzhou and found that Suzhou city has strong policy support, the vegetable production capacity has increased steadily, and large-scale production has been formed.At the same time, the vegetable industry in Suzhou city would become fragmented and remain weak in spite of its massive size.The quality of vegetable products is not good enough, and the brand is not famous.Consumption market needs a large numbers of high-quality vegetables, and it is still very difficult to promote the sustainable development of agriculture and rural economy.The study gave some suggestions to enhance the competitive advantage of Suzhou city vegetable industry, such as strengthening the industrial resilience, making enterprises become ‘permanent brand’ enterprises, creating local characteristic vegetable brands, establishing Suzhou vegetable marketing networks in other cities, developing further processing of vegetables to conform to the new characteristics consumption.
