Abstract:
Taking 3-year-old Ilex ‘Nellie R. Stevens’,Ilex dabieshanensis,Ilex attenuata ‘Sunny Foster’,Ilex cassine ‘angustifolia’,Ilex sp.‘China Girl’,Ilex ‘Solar Flare’ as the experimental materials, their leaves were collected for physiological indicators such as SOD,POD,MDA,proline, soluble sugars, soluble proteins, photosynthetic pigments and anthocyanins after natural low temperature stress.The cold resistance of different Ilex varieties was comprehensively evaluated through principal component analysis and membership function method, in order to provide reference for breeding excellent cold resistant new varieties.The results showed that the cold resistance of the six species of Ilex varieties was ranked in descending order, Ilex attenuata ‘Sunny Foster’,Ilex dabieshanensis,Ilex ‘Nellie R. Stevens’,Ilex sp.‘China Girl’,Ilex cassine ‘angustifolia’ and Ilex ‘Solar Flare’.Ilex attenuata ‘Sunny Foster’ and Ilex dabieshanensis can be used as domesticated evergreen Holly introduced to the central and northern regions, while Ilex ‘Nellie R.Stevens’, Ilex sp.‘China Girl’,Ilex cassine ‘angustifolia’,and Ilex ‘Solar Flare’ are more suitable for planting in areas south of the Yangtze River.
