Abstract: Lagerstroemia plants are traditional woody ornamental tree species in China with a long history of cultivation and high ornamental value.During the 21^st century, the breeding research of Lagerstroemia in China has been increasing, and certain results have been achieved.Many excellent new varieties have been obtained.This study reviewed the research status of Lagerstroemia breeding in China from the aspects of selective breeding, hybrid breeding, mutation breeding, polyploid breeding, molecular breeding, and puts forward some suggestions for future breeding work of Lagerstroemia for reference.
