Reutilization Progress of Spent Mushroom Substrates in Agriculture

  • Spent mushroom substrates(SMS) as the byproduct or waste of edible fungi culture, which contain rich proteins, celluloses, amino acids, fungi polysaccharides, enzymes, et al.The reutilization of SMS is important in the healthy development of mushroom industry. This study summarized the research and utilization of SMS in agricultural cultivation.SMS were mainly used as substrate for edible fungi or horticultural crops culture, microbial fertilizer carrier, soil conditioner and organic fertilizer. The wide application of SMS in agriculture not only made the waste biological resources be reused, but also had great significance for reducing the amount of chemical fertilizer, improving crop growth and environmental protection in agriculture. The reutilization of SMS have great potential in future.
