Abstract:
This study aimed to investigate the effects of polyethylene films(PE) packaging with different thicknesses on the qualities of sweet corns during cold storage. The sweet corns were packaged by 0.02 mm and 0.03 mm PE films and stored at 0 ℃, and the changes of sensory scores, weight loss rates, shrinkage rates and color were determined, and the respiration rates, ethylene production rates, soluble solids, soluble sugars and starch contents were measured. The difference of flavor quality was compared with electronic nose. The results showed that 0.02 mm PE film packaging could significantly reduce the respiratory rates of sweet corns during storage, and inhibit ethylene production, delay bracts yellowing, keep sweet corn grains color and lustre, improve the soluble solids and soluble sugar contents, reduce the starch contents, so as to maintain storage qualities and flavor qualities of sweet corns. The test showed that 0.02 mm thick PE film packaging presented superior effects in maintaining the postharvest storage qualities of sweet corns, which could provide certain references and data supports for the selection of sweet corns packaging materials after harvest.
