Abstract:
Pitaya is a tropical fruit that has creating problems in storage and transportation because of high moisture content. Furthermore, summer is usually the harvesting season of pitaya, so the fruit is easily perished due to serious postharvest diseases and pest damages. This paper summarized the current advances of postharvest storage and preservation technology of pitaya, and reviewed the physical and chemical treatment methods, and pre-harvest measures in detail. These technologies play an important role in the industry, but they also have some deficiencies.As a result, it is critical to explore a green, efficient, and multi-technology integrated system based on the further research at the cellular and molecular level of postharvest pitaya. Thereby, it provides theoretical guidance for the high-quality storage and preservation of pitaya in China, and promotes the long distance transportation of tropical fruit.
