Abstract:
In order to find suitable storage containers and packaging materials for passion fruit, the effects of three kinds of storage containers in terms of plastic basket, foam box, and carton, and five packaging materials including PE self-sealing bag, mesh bag, single-layer paper, OPP self-sealing bag and bubble bag were compared on the storage quality of passion fruit. The results showed that the fruit stored in the plastic basket had the highest weightlessness rate and the fastest shrinkage rate, while the fruit had the lowest weightlessness rate and the slowest shrinkage rate when stored in the foam box. Also, the CI values of foam boxes and cartons were significantly higher than those of plastic baskets(P<0.05). The fruit weightlessness rate stored in PE self-sealing bags, OPP self-sealing bags and bubble bags were significantly lower than samples in the groups of CK, mesh bags and single-layer paper during storage(P<0.05). The CI values of mesh bag and OPP self-sealing bag in the late storage period were significantly higher than those of control, PE self-sealing bag, and single-layer paper(P<0.05). The TA content of fruits stored in the PE self-sealing bag decreased slowly, which was significantly higher than that of the other five treatment groups in the late storage period. In summary, the foam box was conducive to passion fruit water retention and color-change, and the PE self-sealing bag packaging of passion fruit had the best water retention performance with the slowest color-change and fruit ripening rates.
