Abstract:
In order to discover natural antimicrobial ingredients from plants, the whole storey onion(Allium cepa Linn. var. proliferum Regel) were extracted by different polar solvents, and the contents of total phenol, flavonoid and antioxidant activities of the extracts were determined. The antimicrobial activities on Botryis cinerea,Penicillium expansum, Rhisopus nigrican and Alternaria alternata were determined by oxford cup method and double dilution method. And the correlation analysis between chemical indexes and antimicrobial activities were conducted. The results showed that total phenolic and flavonoid contents and antioxidant activity of different polar extracts of storey onion were inturn: ethyl acetate fraction >n-butanol fraction >petroleum ether fraction >water extract>water fraction, and there was a significant difference(P<0.05). In addition, the ethyl acetate, n-butyl and petroleum ether extracts had inhibitory effects on the four postharvest pathogens, and all of them were highly sensitive to Rhisopusni grican, among which the antimicrobial activity of ethyl acetate extracts on Rhisopus nigrican was the strongest, the MIC( minimum inhibitory concentration) and MBC(minimum bactericidal concentration)for Rhisopusnigrican were 1.56 mg/m L and 6.25 mg/m L, respectively. Furthermore, total phenolic content, flavonoid content in different polar extracts showed significant positive correlation with antioxidant activity( P<0. 01), as well as antibacterial activity(P<0.05). In conclusion, the results indicated that phenolic and flavonoid components in storey onion possessed significant antioxidant activity and antimicrobial activity, and ethyl acetate was the main polarsolvent for the extraction of natural antimicrobial ingredients from storey onion.
