Abstract:
Quail has high nutritional value and medicinal value, and are known as the "ginseng".Quail is the smallest poultry raised at present. Because of its small size and poor cold tolerance, it is more susceptible to cold stress. The author reviewed the effects and research progress of cold stress on quail production performance, antioxidant function, physiolo-gical indicators, gut microbiota as well as histological morphology at home and abroad, and summarized the management measures to alleviate cold stress in quails, adding supplements such as vitamin E, trace minerals, orange peel extract, soapwort extract, curcumin, coenzyme Q10 or folic acid to the diet could improve the production performance and antioxidant function of cold-stressed quails to varying degrees, and alleviate the adverse effects of cold stress. Adding the above supplements to the diet could be used as a protective measure to reduce the negative effects of cold stress in quails, and provide a wealth of information and theoretical basis for reducing cold stress in quail production and carrying out related research.
