Abstract:
After the failure of the Comanche program in 2004, the U.S. Army made the third attempt to find the next-generation attack reconnaissance helicopter by starting the program of Future Attack Reconnaissance Aircraft(FARA). From the perspective of research and development of this type of helicopter in the past 40 years, this article briefly described the FARA′s new helicopter design objectives, the evolution of operation, and how the FARA program develops in parallel with the Army′s current concept of operation. By looking into the key technologies applied in the FARA program, the article also analyzed the focus and enlightment of the U.S. Army′s current development of attack reconnaissance helicopters.
