Abstract: 【Objective】 To analyze the multi-functional characteristics of land use of 9 cities in Gansu section of the Yellow River Basin,and to provide optimization basis for land spatial development and protection pattern armed at the high-quality development.【Method】 The spatial-temporal variation of land multifunctional use was evaluated by multi-index comprehensive evaluation,coupling degree of coordination index and comparative advantage index.【Result】 From the perspective of time,the level of multifunctional land use and ecological function in the city showed a fluctuating trend;In terms of production function,Dingxi City and Gannan Prefecture had a significant increase,while the other cities maintained a stable or slightly decreased;The change of life function is not significant,the whole has a little improvement. Spatially,the comprehensive function of the city is characterized by strong center and weak edge,and the ecological function is counterbalanced with the production and living function. The coordination types of land multifunctional availability were mainly mild disordered,showing a spatial distribution pattern of "high in the central south and low in the north". The three cities of Lanzhou,Dingxi and Qingyang have comparative advantages in production function. Lanzhou,Linxia,Tianshui,Pingliang 4 cities（prefectures） have comparative advantages in life function;The four cities of Baiyin,Gannan,Qingyang and Wuwei have obvious advantages in ecological function.【Conclusion】 The level of multifunctional land use in Gansu section of the Yellow River Basin is different among cities,showing a pattern of "less strong and more weak". The coupling coordination types of land multifunctional use were mainly mild and moderate dissonance. From the perspective of spatial distribution pattern,the coupling coordination degree showed a spatial distribution pattern of "high in the center and low in the periphery". The index of functional comparative advantage shows that the distribution of six functional advantage areas,namely,production,living,ecology,production-living,production-ecology and life-ecology,is more balanced in the Gansu section of the Yellow River Basin.
