Evaluation of physiological responses and salt tolerance to salt stress in four buckwheat varieties

  • 【Objective】 To study the physiological response and tolerance of different buckwheat varieties to salt stress.【Method】 Ding tian qiao No. 1, Gu qiao No. 1, Gui tian qiao No. 2, and Ding tian qiao No. 3 were used as material. Potting test by NaCl stress using clean water as a control(CK), growth amount(plant height), germination rate, survival rate, proline content, soluble sugar(SS) content, superoxide dismutase(SOD) activity, peroxidase(POD) activity, malondialdehyde(MDA) content, chlorophyll content and other indicators were determined. Principal component analysis and membership function method were used to comprehensively evaluate its salt resistance.【Result】 NaCl stress significantly affected seed germination, seedling growth and development, and physiological and biochemical responses of buckwheat. The salt resistance of the four buckwheat varieties was, in order: Gui tian qiao No. 2 > Ding tian qiao No. 1 > Ding tian qiao No. 3 > Gu qiao No. 1,among them, Gui tian qiao No. 2 suffered the lightest and had the strongest salt resistance,Gu qiao No. 1 is the most severely affected and the salt resistance is the weakest.【Conclusion】 This paper provides some theoretical basis for the selection of buckwheat varieties to be grown in saline-alkali areas.
