Abstract: The Animal Science specialty is characterized with strong practicality, and has both theoretical and experimental teaching assignments. The COVID-19 epidemic has seriously affected the higher education in China. As the main countermeasure for colleges and universities to cope with the epidemic, online teaching has solved the class teaching problems brought by the epidemic to a certain extent. However, due to the discipline hands-on characteristics of experiments, online teaching of experiments can hardly be carried out effectively. This paper suggested the necessity of building a virtual simulation teaching platform and a professional new virtual simulation teaching system by investigating the present situation of contemporary experimental teaching and the advantages of online virtual experiment application, combined with the current development trend of online virtual experiment at home and abroad, to provide new ideas for pushing forward the reform of experimental teaching for the training of livestock professionals in the new era.
