Abstract:
The red-crowned crane is an omnivorous bird species, and its egg-laying is largely restricted to April and June. It is a first class endangered species in China. For red-crowned cranes in captivity in the zoo, the feeding and management during laying period played a critical role in maintaining the health status and offspring rearing of red-crowned cranes. In this paper, the laying cycle of captive red-crowned cranes could be divided into three stages which were pre-laying period, laying period and post-laying period, the essentials of the feeding and management of red-crowned cranes in each period were summarized to provide a reference for counterparts.
