Abstract:
The Macaques, with its exceptionality due to its closeness to humans anatomically, physically and at genomic level, have long been the nonhumane primate of choice on which to conduct research on humane and health-related topics. In recent years, there has been a shortage of macaques for biomedical research due to a combination of factors including low fertility in macaques and increasing demand for macaques. At present, the semen cryopreservation in bovine, sheep, pig and other domestic animals has been extensively studied, but much limited in the macaques. This paper reviewed the AI in the macaques from the perspectives of semen collection, the composition of semen extender, cryopreservation procedure and the method of insemination and put forward some suggestions for the future research.
