Abstract:
China is particularly rich in laying duck genetic resources, most of which are less cultivated and utilized. Currently, there are only three cultivated duck breeds for eggs in China, including Jinding ducks, Shaoxing ducks and Gaoyou ducks. Although there are few laying ducks varieties abroad, the degree of breeding and development of those foreign laying ducks is high, having developed many excellent laying duck breeds through continuous cross breeding. This article introduces the origin, breeding history, physical appearance, production performance and variety characteristics of major foreign laying duck breeds such as Campbell ducks(Eurocephalus anguitimens), Welsh harlequin ducks(Histrionicus histrionicus), Magpie ducks(Bucephala clangula), Abacot Rangers ducks(Anas platyrhynchos) and Indian Runner ducks(Anas platyrhynchos), explores the direction of development and utilization of the duck breeds mentioned above to provide a reference for the development and utilization, conservation, and genetic improvement of domestic laying ducks genetic resources.
