Abstract:
Black eared kite(Milvus migrans lineatus), as a second level protected wild animal in china, is a medium-sized bird of prey in the family Accipitridae, and thought to be the world’s most abundant species of Accipitridae. The Shanghai Zoo, formerly known as Western suburbs Park, was founded in 1954. Breeding house for Black eared kites was renovated ecologically in 2014, up to 17 meters high, with windows facing south and back facing north, covering an area of approximately 750 square meters. The intra species fighting among the chicks of Black eared kites during breeding may cause serious injuries. In order to increase the captive population of this species, the weaker of the two chicks that were hatched naturally was separated for artificial breeding. The chick was too fatigue to stand and walk normally with leg weakness due to imbalance in calcium phosphorus ratio in feed. Through optimizing the feed calcium phosphorus ratio and feeding strategy, the leg function of the chick got well recovered. Practicing artificial raising raptors in Shanghai Zoo offered a more complete view of brooding for raptors, and accumulated valuable experience for future work.
