Abstract:
There are more than 3 000 rare wild animals belonging to 200 species in Tianjin Zoo, known as a base of integrating wildlife relocation protection, popularization of science education, scientific research, leisure and entertainment by taking biodiversity conservation as its purpose. At present, taking the positive reinforcement behavior training in captive wild animals has become a major trend in the development of zoos at home and abroad. Tianjin Zoo has made animal behavior training an important part of breeding management since 2018. The Primate Center has carried out positive reinforcement cage training for captive rare wild animals by using the positive guidance of instructions and clappers and rewarding animals with food to cultivate desired behavior, which successfully reach the goal of the training programs of positioning, following the target stick to shift, squatting and entering the cage. This paper introduces the training of adult male Mandrillus sphinx, summarizes the training principle, training items, procedures and required time, and discusses the relevant training process, so as to provide some reference for the relevant work in the industry.
