Abstract:
The East African Colobus guereza inhabits tropical jungles or forests close to grasslands. In 2017, 6 East African Colobus guereza were introduced into Zhengzhou Zoo and raised in the Precious Monkey House. This paper summarized and analyzed the breeding process of a successfully bred Colobus guereza in Zhengzhou Zoo. Infant monkeys were fed 6-8 times a day with artificial milk prepared with milk powder and appropriate addition of trace elements and minerals at an initial temperature of 30 ℃ and relative humidity of 48%-60%. With the increase of age, the number of feedings should be gradually reduced, and the temperature should be gradually reduced to 25 ℃. At 90 days of age, the monkeys were fed fresh crushed elm leaves to promote the transition to a high-fiber diet. At the age of 150 days, the monkeys were allowed to go outside for 1 h at mild temperature every day, and gradually increased the time to allow monkeys to receive sunlight and adapt to the external environment. By 180 days of age, the monkeys are well developed.
