Abstract:
Due to continuous habitat destruction, the wild Nomascus leucogenys is critically endangered. Breeding of captive Nomascus leucogenys plays an important role in expanding the population size of this species. Currently, there are 10 Nomascus leucogenys in Tianjin Zoo, having accumulated rich management experience in long-term captive breeding. At present, two Nomascus leucogenys families have successfully given birth to six cubs, both expanding the population size of the captive Nomascus leucogenys in the zoo and benefiting the blood renewal of other zoos. This paper summarizes such five aspects as cage paring, mating, pregnancy, delivery, postpartum management and youth rearing of captive Nomascus leucogenys, and put forward a set of scientific breeding management methods, aiming to provide some references for expanding the population of Nomascus leucogenys, better protecting the genetic diversity of the species and related work in the industry.
