Bactrian camel varieties source and development and utilization status in Xinjiang

  • Bactrian camel varieties in Xinjiang are produced in the edge of Tarim Basin and Junggar Basin and in the desert grassland and desert grassland zone on the north and south slopes of Tianshan Mountains. Under the special geographical and historical conditions in the south and north of Xinjiang, Xinjiang Tarim Bactrian camel and Xinjiang Junggar Bactrian camel, which are unique local varieties in Xinjiang, have been formed. This paper introduces the formation of bactrian camel varieties, distribution of producing areas, production performance, features of body shape and appearance, and the development and utilization of bactrian camel in Xinjiang. It is suggested to strengthen the development and research of camel products, support the establishment of deep processing enterprises of camel products,establish perfect production, processing and marketing system, and open the market of camel products to promote the development of camel industry.
