Abstract
Infanticide is an unusual behavior that has been observed in many species throughout the animal kingdom. In order to investigate the mechanism for the infanticide of captive Chinese red pandas(Ailurus styani), researchers observed the infanticide behavior by one female Chinese red panda. The results suggested that environmental factors, human interference, and other factors found to induce infanticide behavior in red pandas, among which, noise be the dominating factor inducing the infanticide behavior of female red pandas in the Walnut Ping Base. The purpose of this study is to provide reference for the development of reasonable feeding and management measure for Chinese red pandas to reduce or avoid the occurrence of infanticide and improve the survival rate of young cubs.
