Effects of Ethephon Spray on the Fatty Acid Composition and Fruit Growth and Development of Camellia oleifera

  • In order to promote the plant hormone ethephon to regulate the fatty acid content of Camellia oleifera fruit and the active application of fruit growth and development, ’Xianglin 210’ was used as the experimental material, and used GC-MS analysis techniques, field experimental observation, and other research methods to investigate the effects of spraying 1.5 g·L-1 ethephon during the early stage of oil synthesis on the oil content, fatty acid content, and fruit traits Camellia oleifera during fruit development. The results showed that, although the application of ethephon had no significant effect on the oil content of kernels during fruit ripening, it could significantly increased the oil content of kernels at 7 days and 30 days after treatment, increased by 36.53% and 3.37%, respectively. Spraying ethephon can significantly increased the content of linoleic acid, linolenic acid, and palmitic acid during fruit ripening by 11.92%, 11.54% and 3.53%, respectively, but significantly reduced the content of arachidonic acid and stearic acid by 13.79% and 14.51%, respectively.Spraying ethephon significantly reduced the peel thickness during the development of Camellia oleifera fruit and seeds moisture content by 22.03% and 7.36% respectively, but the affect on the fresh fruit weight, fresh seed weight, lateral and vertical diameter of the fruit, the chlorophyll and carotene content in the leaves was not significant
