Abstract: In order to understand the effects of different forms and doses of copper on serum antioxidant indices of Tibetan chickens in high altitude area, 210 one day old Tibetan chickens were randomly divided into blank control group, copper sulfate group, nano copper oxide group, blank control group(n=30) was fed basal diet; copper sulfate group(three treatments were added at 5,50,100 mg/kg, with 30 Tibetan chickens in each treatment) was fed basal diet supplemented with 5,50,100 mg/kg copper sulfate; nano copper oxide group(three treatments were added at 5,50,100 mg/kg, with 30 Tibetan chickens in each treatment) was fed basic diet supplemented with 5, 50, 100 mg/kg of nano copper oxide. Tibetan chicken were fed different forms of copper additive diets for a week from 14 days of age. Blood samples were collected at 21 and 28 days of age to determine serum the activities of superoxide oxide dismutase(SOD), total antioxidant capacity(T-AOC), peroxidase(POD), and copper blue protease(CP) and the content malondialdehyde(MDA) in serum of Tibetan chickens. The results showed that the activities of T-AOC, POD and CP in nano copper oxide group were significantly higher than those in copper sulfate group(P<0.05), and SOD activity and MDA content in nano copper oxide group were significantly lower than those in copper sulfate group(P<0.05);with the increase of dietary copper additive concentration, the three serum indexes of T-AOC, POD and CP showed a trend of increasing first and then decreasing. The results indicated that low dose nano copper oxide could significantly improve the antioxidant capacity of the body.
