Abstract:
To evaluate the fermentation quality and nutritive value of whole corn silage along the Yellow River in Shandong Province, and to understand the production status of corn silage in large-scale cattle farms, a total of 105 whole corn silage samples were collected from 51 large-scale dairy farms and 54 beef cattle farms of Binzhou City, Dongying City, Dezhou City, Heze City, Ji’ning City, Ji’nan City, Liaocheng City, Tian City, Zibo City along the Yellow River from March to May 2023, and the fermentation quality and nutrient composition of the samples were determined. Whole corn silage quality was graded according to Silage Corn Grading and Indexes(GB/T 25882—2010). The results showed that the lactic acid content of whole corn silage in Zibo City was significantly higher than that in other cities(P<0.05); the pH value of whole corn silage in Dezhou City was significantly higher than that in Binzhou City, Dongying City, Heze City, Liaocheng City, Tai’an City and Zibo City(P<0.05), and the pH value of whole corn silage in Zibo City was the lowest(3.15). The starch content of whole corn silage in Tai’an City and Binzhou City were significantly higher than that in Dongying City, Dezhou City, Heze City, Ji’ning City, and Zibo City(P<0.01); the starch content in Liaocheng was significantly higher than that in Dezhou City and Ji’ning City(P<0.01), and that in Ji’nan City was significantly higher than that in Dezhou City and Ji’ning City(P<0.05). The neutral detergent fiber content of whole corn silage in Ji’nan City was the highest, which was significantly higher than that in Heze City and Ji’ning City; the neutral detergent fiber content in Binzhou City and Liaocheng City was significantly higher than that in Ji’ning City(P<0.01). The acid detergent lignin(ADL) content of whole corn silage in Dezhou City was the highest, which was significantly higher than that in Binzhou City, Dongying City, Liaocheng City, Tai’an City and Zibo City(P<0.01), and significantly higher than that in Ji’nan City(P<0.05). The ADL content in Heze City and Ji’ning City were significantly higher than Zibo City(P<0.01). The ash content in Dezhou City was the highest, and it was significantly higher than that in Binzhou City, Dongying City, Liaocheng City, and Zibo City(P<0.05), while that in Heze City was significantly higher than that in Binzhou City, Liaocheng City, and Zibo City(P<0.05). The crude fat content in Tai’an City, Ji’nan City, Binzhou City, and Liaocheng City was higher than that in Ji’ning City(P<0.01), and that in Dongying City, Dezhou City, and Zibo City were significantly higher than Ji’ning City(P<0.05). There were no significant differences in the contents of acetic acid, propionic acid, acid detergent fiber, dry matter and crude protein in whole corn silage among different cities(P>0.05). The quality of whole corn silage in Tai’an City was the first grade, that in Ji’nan, Liaocheng, and Binzhou City was the second level, and that in Zibo City, Ji’ning City, Dezhou City, Dongying City, and Heze City was the third level. The results indicated that the overall quality of whole corn silage was good along the Yellow River basin, and there were some differences in the nutrient composition of whole corn silage in different cities, but all of them met the relevant feeding standards.
