A case of diagnosis and treatment of cat mediastinal lymphoma

  • One female British short-hair cat was one year and three months old, weighing 3.4 kg and regular immune deworming. Two months before the treatment, the cat had an abnormal breathing state, and had been to an animal hospital. After antibiotic treatment, it did not get better and was transferred to an animal hospital in Guangzhou. In order to diagnose and treat the cat’s disease, medical history, clinical examination, hematology examination, infectious disease screening, X-ray examination, B-ultrasound examination, and cytological examination were used for initial diagnosis; and finally the treatment was performed based on the diagnosis results. The results showed that the cat was suffering from mediastinal lymphoma; through symptomatic treatment, the combination of vincristine, cyclophosphamide and prednisolone was carried out for chemotherapy. The cat’s symptoms were partially relieved after 4 weeks of chemotherapy. In the 16 th week after treatment, the cat suffered from respiratory distress at home which caused shock, and eventually died. The results suggested that there were many factors that affected the prognosis of mediastinal lymphoma after chemotherapy, including whether there was Feline leukemia virus infection, tumor response to chemotherapy, and tumor staging, which need to be treated with caution.
