Abstract: Progress in synthesis of perillyl alcohol is summarized with 54 references. The key reaction of each synthetic route was analyzed. Characteristics of various approaches were discussed. It is described emphatically that 2,10-epoxypinane is isomerized to perillyl alcohol catalyzed by various Bronsted acids. In addition, the natural occurrence, application and isolation method of perillyl alcohol were briefly described.
