Abstract: A novel compound, 7-isopropyl-1-methoxymethyl-4-methylazulene (1)was easily synthesized by direct etherification of 7-isopropyl-4-methyl-1-azulenemethanol(2)with methanol. The reaction occurred in several minutes in an ethereal solution at 0～5℃(ice water bath)catalyzed with sulfuric acid. There are some by products including a dimmer 5 and small amount of oligomers. The structures of 1 and 5 were elucidated from their spectroscopic data (1H NMR,FTIR,UV-vis and HR-MS).
