Abstract
The technological advancement of the Internet of Things(IoT) has greatly contributed to the development of smart agriculture. For example, IoT-based agricultural monitoring devices can effectively improve productivity. However, these devices are usually installed in agricultural fields without sustainable energy supply, so reducing energy consumption and improving runtime are the primary issues. In this paper, we conducted four experimental tests on three commonly used wireless communication technologies, namely WIFI, ZigBee, and LoRaWAN, under different environmental conditions. The experimental results show that LoRaWAN is most suitable for agricultural monitoring applications under the priority of power consumption.
