Abstract: In order to investigate the effects of seed aging on the growth and development of maize, the maize hybrid seeds with different vigor were artificially aged under high temperature and humidity and the change rule of the seed vigor with different aging degree and the effects of seed aging on the growth characteristics of maize seedlings with different vigor under indoor incubator and greenhouse environment conditions were studied. The results showed that with the extension of artificial aging treatment time, the germination potential, germination rate, germination index and vigor index of the seeds showed a significant decrease trend. During the germination stage of maize seeds with different vigor, the differences of each character increased gradually and the vigor decreased to different degrees. The maize varieties with high vigor might not be able to resist aging. The emergence percentage, emergence rate, seedling growth and uniformity of the maize seeds belonged to aging sensitive type were seriously inhibited and seedlings had low water content and slow metabolism.
