Abstract: In order to compare the seed quality of 288 clonal seeds of Larix principis-rupprechtii in the first generation seed orchards, the characteristics of 1000-seed weight, fullness rate and germination rate were measured and analyzed.The results showed that there were significant differences in seed quality among 5 provenances and 288 clones of Larix principis-rupprechtii in seed orchards.The 1000-seed weight and germination index of the provenance from Weixian County of Hebei province were the highest, while the 1000-seed weight and fullness ratio of Hunyuan provenance of Shanxi province were the smallest, but with high germination index.Additionally, the seed quality of Weichang, Luanping and Fuping provenances of Hebei province had little difference.The 1000-seed weight of the seed orchard clones ranged from 3.512 7 to 7.262 8 g, and the fullness rate ranged from 40.89% to 95.55%.The germination rate of more than 98% of the clones was higher than 60%,and they were classified as the first grade seeds.The germination peak appeared on the fifth day, and more than 90% of the clones germinated within 7 days.The 125 clones whose germination index was higher than the average of population could be selected as the key population for the selection of excellent clones.However,the1000-seed weight should be considered on the basis of germination characteristics in the selection of high-quality clones in seed orchards.
