Abstract:
In order to study the influence of storage years on germination, physiological characteristics and water purification effect of Moringa oleifera seeds. Moringa oleifera seeds that were stored for 1 year, 2 years, 3 years and 4 years were used as experimental materials. The germination rate of seeds was measured, the germination situation was observed, and the changes of physiological characteristics and water purification effect were studied. The results showed that the germination rate of Moringa oleifera seeds decreased gradually with the increase of storage years, and the contents of malondialdehyde(MDA)and soluble protein increased at first and then decreased. The contents of MDA and soluble protein of Moringa oleifera seeds stored for 4 years decreased significantly. The activities of POD and CAT reduced significantly with the increase of storge years. Correlation analysis indicated that germination percentage had a significant positive correlation with soluble protein content. There were significant and extremely significant positive correlations between electrical conductivity and POD and CAT,respectively. There was a significant positive correlation between POD and CAT. The study found that the storage period had little effect on the water purification effect of seeds. It was suggested that stored seeds for 1 and 2 years could be used about the cultivation and production of Moringa oleifera, and the seeds with a long storage time could be developed and utilized as natural water purifiers.
