Abstract:
To study the seed germination characteristics of Carum carvi L. and the limiting factors affecting the seed germination, and improve the seed germination rate of Carum carvi L.. the seeds of Carum carvi L. were stored in sand at low temperature, and then soaked in gibberellin solution of different concentrations. The percentage of seed embryos and germination indexes were determined before and after sand storage. The results showed that the embryo development stage of seeds of Carum carvi L. was mostly in punctate embryo stage, the embryo was not mature, and the seed coat did not cause any obstacle to its germination; Gibberellin at different concentrations did not promote the germination of seeds, but inhibited the germination of seeds; The effect of low temperature sand storage was the best, the germination rate and germination potential of seeds were significantly higher than that of untreated(ck), the germination rate reached 34.67%, and the germination potential reached 8.00%. The embryo of Carum carvi L. seeds was not mature, low temperature sand storage could promote the growth of embryo; Gibberellin could not improve seed germination rate; The seed coat did not cause permeability barrier to its germination, and the seed dormancy type was deep complex physiological dormancy(MPD). The effective way to break the dormancy of seeds of Carum carvi L. was low temperature sand storage.
