Breeding of Three-line Hybrid Edible Sunflower Variety ‘Taishi 868’ with Characteristics of Disease-resistance and High-yield

  • In recent years, the edible sunflower industry in China has been developing rapidly and the planting area has been expanding continuously. However, the limited land area, the restriction of crop rotation, and the poor disease resistance of varieties have led to various kinds of sunflower diseases and insect pests aggravated to varying degrees, which have seriously threatened the development of sunflower industry in China. The edible sunflower variety Taishi 868 is a disease-resistant and high-yielding sunflower three-line hybrid bred by the Crop Science Institute of Shanxi Academy of Agricultural Sciences and the Agricultural Science Institute of the Sixth Division of Xinjiang Production and Construction Group. It was registered by the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Areas in September 2019, with the registration number: GPD Sunflower(2019)140141. The female parent of Taishi 868 was a sterile line 163 A and the male parent was a restorer line 871 R. The growth period was 110 days, and the plant height was 190—220 cm. The average yield was 3 774 kg·hm-2, and it was moderately resistant to black stem, black spot, verticillium wilt, and strangletare(G microspecies). It was suitable for planting in central and northern Shanxi and northern Xinjiang.
