Breeding of Three-line Indica Hybrid Rice Variety ‘Fanyou 609’

In order to cultivate a new hybrid rice combination with high yield, high resistance and excellent rice quality, the three-line sterile line Fanyuan A breeded by Rice Research Institute of Fujian Academy of Agricultural Science was crossed with the strong dominant restorer line Banghui 609, and finally the three-line indica hybrid rice Fanyu 609 was created. The hybrid rice variety showed strong heterosis through multiple field tests. In 2013, this variety participated in the regional experiment of late maturity indica group in the upper reaches of the Yangtze River, showing the characteristics of neat population, good color turning at ripe stage, outstanding high yield, and high quality rice, which was suitable for growing mid-season rice in the upper reaches of the Yangtze River in China. And, in 2016, this rice variety was approved by the Rice Specialized Committee of the National Crop Variety Certification Committee（National Certification Rice 2016018）. This paper summarized the breeding process and characteristics of the variety, as well as the yield, resistance and rice quality in the regional test and production test, and discussed the breeding theory of hybrid rice.
