Review of Fiber Reinforced Geopolymer Composites

  • Geopolymer is a new type of chemically activated cementitious material with low energy consumption and low carbon emission. Compared with the traditional cementitious material cement, the production raw materials of geopolymer are widely distributed. Most of the inorganic solid wastes containing aluminosilicate can be used to prepare geopolymer, which conforms to the concept of green and sustainable development. However, when subjected to bending and tensile stress, geopolymer and cement show brittle characteristics, both of which need fiber reinforcement to control crack propagation and enhance toughness. Fiber can significantly improve the working performance of geopolymer. By summarizing the papers on fiber reinforced Geopolymer Composites(FRGC) all over the world, comparing the advantages and disadvantages of various types of fiber reinforced materials, the effects of fiber on the physical properties, energy absorption and high temperature resistance of FRGC are summarized and analyzed. It can be clearly seen that each type of FRGC has its own optimal fiber content, and different fiber types have different effects on the mechanical properties and mechanical properties of FRGC.
