Analysis of Beam-column Joints with Large Eccentricity

  • Based on the large eccentric joints of a frame shear wall high-rise building, the adverse effects of eccentric joints on the shear capacity of the core joint area were analyzed. Through the refined finite element model of the joint, the additional torque and bending moment of beam-column joint eccentricity and the adverse effect of eccentricity on the shear capacity of the core joint area were quantitatively analyzed. The results indicate that for the typical strong columns and weak beams joint system(large columns and small beam sections), the maximum stress value of concrete in the core area of eccentric joints is still less than the standard compressive strength value of materials in the core area of eccentric joints, even if the structural measures like horizontal haunch at beam ends are not adopted. Furthermore, because the floor around the core joint area mitigated part additional moment resulting from eccentricity, thus the shear resistance of the core area of column joint has a larger surplus.
