Abstract: At present, the traffic simulation software widely used in China is originated from foreign countries, and there is still a large space for development in related fields in China.Therefore, it is particularly important to analyze the mature foreign traffic simulation software.From the horizontal aspect, the macro, meso and micro traffic simulations are compared and analyzed, and from the vertical aspect, commonly used macro and micro traffic simulation softwares are compared and analyzed from different angles.The analysis results show that the situation of mixed traffic flow in China is not considered in the foreign softwares, so it is necessary to develop a global general traffic simulation software which can seamlessly connect with GIS（geographic information system） and related positioning system.
