Research on the impact of farmers’ production behavior decisions of the integration of planting and breeding on their income effects

  • The integration of planting and breeding is of great significance to improve the agricultural ecological environment and promote the development of agricultural circular economy. To this end, this study used 614 rural household samples in Xinjiang as the basic data, the Logit and PSM models were used to empirically analyze the impact of the integrated operation mode of planting and breeding on the income effect of farmer households. The results showed that among the 11 variables of individual characteristics, family characteristics and external resource characteristics, the educational level of farmers, the value of family fixed assets, the concentration of land plots, the ease of obtaining technology for the integration of planting and breeding, the strength of policy support and the availability of credit were important factors for the integration of planting and breeding. The influence coefficients of these factors on farmers’ decision to adopt the integrated planting and breeding model were 0.251 9, 0.184 5, 0.577 5, 0.562 0, 0.230 8 and 0.237 7, respectively. The PSM matching results showed that the integrated operation of planting and breeding could significantly increase the income of farmers, and at least increase the income of farmers by 26.71%. In order to further improve the adoption intensity of farmers’ integrated operation model of planting and breeding, and promote the increase of farmers’ income, it is proposed to reasonably coordinate the scale of planting and breeding to achieve balanced development of planting and breeding; strengthen the connection of stakeholders and achieve vertical extension and integration; improve relevant supporting measures and optimize the external support environment, so as to promote the “win-win” of ecological construction and economic development.
