Ecosystem service value assessment of National Park of Hainan Tropical Rainforest based on land use change

    Abstract:
Objectives National parks constitute a vital category of global natural protected areas and hold positive significance for maintaining global biodiversity and ecological environmental conservation. Land use change is a critical factor in global and regional climate variation and significantly influences ecosystem service value (ESV). Conducting an ecosystem service value assessment of National Park of Hainan Tropical Rainforest can intuitively quantify the current status of ecosystem service values within the park, providing a reference basis for regional ecological restoration and management efforts.
Methods This study focused on National Park of Hainan Tropical Rainforest, utilizing ArcGIS 10.8 software for data processing. It combined regional grain production and consumer price index (CPI) for value equivalence adjustment, employing the value equivalence exchange method to assess ESV within the region.
Results The findings revealed that in 2020, the total value of ecosystem services in National Park of Hainan Tropical Rainforest was 38.648 billion yuan, with forest land accounting for 34.461 billion yuan, representing 89.17% of the total value. The dominant type of ecosystem service was regulatory services, valued at 26.184 billion yuan.
Conclusion National Park of Hainan Tropical Rainforest has established an ecosystem service value system primarily based on forest land. The core protection area constituted 51.35% of the total ESV of the national park, while the general control area accounted for the remaining 48.65%. The study recommends that National Park of Hainan Tropical Rainforest enhance the protection of forest land, continue to implement mountain closure for afforestation, artificial forest withdrawal projects in key ecological zones, and ecological corridor construction projects. These efforts would expand the habitats of critical species, strengthen ecological protection efforts, and ensure the scientific and effective preservation of the originality and integrity of its ecosystem.
